Curriculum of Neonatal Nursing in Schools

The newly born infants are vulnerable to sickness because they come out from a different environment. Special care and treatment are offered to those newborn. This treatment is offered to them by neonatal nurses. So they are the Registered nurse who has specialised training in caring for newborn infants. There are levels of treatment supplied towards the newborn infants in accordance to their health conditions are:



* In level 1, the new born are healthy and they are born without complication or illnesses. So they can leave the hospital in short period of time.



* In level 2, the new born babies may have minor complications and may require more care.



* In level three, the newborn infants are admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as they require much more continuous medical treatment and support. So they are to remain within the hospital for longer time period.



The programs for neonatal Nursing graduates are:



1. MSN Neonatal Nurse Practitioner- one can study neonatal Nursing as a specialization subject while studying Masters of Science in Nursing.



2. MSN Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist- these are the programs that will give one academic as well as clinical teachings. In this the excess concentration is on clinical practices.



The curriculum of neonatal Nursing consists of:



* Advanced Assessment and Diagnostic for neonates



* Pharmacology for Neonates



* Issues in Neonatal Nursing



* Advanced Pathophysiology and Physiology



* Health care delivery and human responses



Registered Nurses need to complete Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN). In this they are to complete their non-Nursing requirements in first two years. They are also to include math, science, statistics, microbiology, anatomy and physiology. Along with Bachelors Degree can continue to become credentialed as Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP). They must be certified in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing. After passing the national certifying exam they are also required to have some clinical experience in a hospital. But in order to become a neonatal nurse Practitioner (NPP) one needs Masters' Degree in nursing. Some school also gives two year Advanced Practice Neonatal Nursing (APNN) Program.



They can work with the Obstetrical and Nursery Departments of hospital and their main duties are:



* Providing general healthcare to newly born infants.



* Offering crucial treatment to neonates born with health defects.



* Counseling parents of the infant.



* Monitoring the situation of the infants.



* Operating specialist health care gear.
